Angra dos Reis, which translates as the ‘Bay of Kings,’ is the jewel in the crown of the stretch of Atlantic Rainforest-covered coastline that runs between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Located just under three hour’s drive (or forty minutes helicopter flight) from Rio, this is the summer playground of choice for wealthy Cariocas and Paulistas who flock to the region during the summer season to sun worship on their private islands and socialise on their super yachts.
The area is a yachting heaven – the warm and calm sea is home to 365 beautiful tropical islands, some with lavish villas and private beaches, others uninhabited apart from the abundant wildlife (marmosets, parakeets, and other colourful birds are easy to see on the islands as well as turtles and dolphins offshore), and yet more with bars, restaurant,s and exclusive day clubs.
