The natural barriers of the Atacama Desert and Andes mountains have also protected the country from the infamous phylloxera blight, meaning it is one of the few remaining locations in the world where much-prized, ungrafted vines are the norm. The Chilean wine industry, internationally known for consistent quality, punches far above its weight exporting more wine than any other country outside Europe.

The majority of these wines are produced in the Aconcagua and Central Valley regions, which are conveniently located to the north and south of the capital, Santiago. These areas are then divided into many different sub-regions, each of which has its distinctive terroirs and characteristics. All within a stone’s throw of Santiago, these regions are the perfect place to wind up a multi-stop Chile itinerary, with a few days of rest and relaxation among the vines.
